Position Summary

The Food Scientist owns the formulation science and product quality behind everything Rosabella makes: researching and developing new formulations, evaluating and sourcing ingredients, and ensuring every product is safe, effective, stable, and compliant. As we launch new products and scale existing ones, this role is the scientific backbone that keeps quality rigorous while we move fast.

We operate an asset-light model built around external co-manufacturers rather than an in-house production lab. This role works hands-on with those co-manufacturers on formulation and scale-up, rather than running formulation entirely in-house. You'll partner closely with the Director of Operations, who owns the broader supply chain and quality function.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulation Development: Research and develop new product formulations, working with co-manufacturers to translate concepts into shelf-stable, compliant, effective products.

• Ingredient Sourcing & Evaluation: Evaluate ingredient suppliers for quality, purity, and efficacy; source and vet raw materials for new and existing formulations.

• Quality & Compliance: Ensure formulations comply with GMP and FDA/DSHEA regulations, and pursue relevant third-party certifications where applicable.

• Claims Substantiation: Ensure product claims are backed by appropriate scientific evidence and stay within regulatory-compliant bounds.

• Stability & Shelf-Life Testing: Design and oversee stability testing to confirm product safety and efficacy through the full shelf life.

• Co-Manufacturer Collaboration: Partner with co-manufacturers on formulation scale-up, troubleshoot production issues, and hold the line on quality standards during manufacturing.

• Documentation: Maintain detailed formulation records, batch documentation, and technical specifications.

• Cross-Functional Partnership: Work with the Director of Operations on quality processes, and with the Creative and Growth teams to make sure product claims and education content are scientifically accurate.

• Regulatory Monitoring: Stay current on supplement industry regulations and flag changes that affect current or planned products.

Qualifications

Required:

• Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, or a related field.

• Experience formulating dietary supplements or nutraceuticals, ideally in a DTC or CPG environment.

• Working knowledge of GMP and FDA/DSHEA regulations for dietary supplements.

• Experience working directly with co-manufacturers on formulation and scale-up, not just within an in-house lab.

• Strong understanding of ingredient interactions, stability, and bioavailability.

• Ability to translate scientific research into practical, compliant product formulations quickly.

Preferred:

• Experience in the menopause, women's health, or wellness supplement category specifically.

• Familiarity with third-party quality certifications relevant to supplements (e.g., NSF, Informed Sport).

• Experience with claims substantiation and label compliance review.

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant scientific field.

• This is not for people who treat compliance and quality as a checkbox rather than a standard they personally hold the line on.

• This is not for people who need an in-house lab and production team. We work through external co-manufacturers, and this role has to be comfortable operating that way.

• This is not for people who are resistant to direct, frequent feedback. We give feedback often and expect it to be applied.

Work Environment

• Remote-first, with periodic travel to co-manufacturer and manufacturing facilities as needed.

• Direct access to and regular collaboration with the Director of Operations.

• Fast-paced, high-ownership environment with minimal approval layers between research and execution.
